Online training vs. offline training:Text, Videos, Podcasts, Infographics, and One-on-One Discussion

What started as a procedure to articulate and align the employees with the goals of the organization has over the years developed into a fully fledged booming industry. According to a report published by Technavio “The global corporate training market is poised to grow at a CAGR of 9.79% during the period of 2018-2022.” Undoubtedly training has been a vital element to train and enhance the overall work efficiency but it cannot be ignored that it includes higher monetary investments. However, with technology spouting something new every moment, training to have evolved drastically with technology being its alibi. With e-learning taking the lead in the current era and also proving to show positive numbers, the question still pertains, what is more effective ‘Online Training or Offline Training’?

While, if someone asked you that what picture comes into your mind when you hear the word training and the majority of us will answer that a classroom where everyone is sitting with a board or a projector where a presentation is being explained by an instructor. However, with e-learning becoming mainstream global organizations are choosing e-learning as their primary choice because of a number of profitable factors which are mentioned below.

E-Learning

According to a report published by Forbes, the global e-learning market is poised to reach $325 billion by 2025. The numbers shared above showcase the level of acceptance that organizations have shown to include e-learning as an effective tool to increase employee retention and enhance the overall productivity. The ability to access your learning modules and learn until you understand is one of the beneficiary notions that come in hand with the implementation of e-learning.

It's the future, and it is not limited, e-learning initially started off with training modules that contained texts which later evolved into audio, pictures, infographics and videos. In the current era, it's still evolving and we are witnessing the initiation of AR(Augmented Reality) and VR(Virtual Reality) in quite a number of fields.

 What’s the Impact

While, until now some organizations believe that it is necessary for an employee to have a personal connection with the trainer for quicker corrections and resolutions but the number of benefits that one gets with including e-learning in their corporate mechanism doesn’t get outnumbered. With the lesser need of physical infrastructure, e-learning cuts down a majority of financial investment that is required to create a physical training environment. Some organizations have also tried to follow a hybrid model that involves a combined approach. While it can be pretty effective sometimes but traditional teaching can be used in a limited manner to cut down on costs and especially on the most critical modules.

While creating an e-learning course, it is necessary to conduct surveys and research prior to building engagement with the employees and educate them about why you are conducting this training and how it can be beneficial for both of them.

However, many organizations also prefer an LMS consulting service to outsource their requirements to the professionals in the e-learning industry. This is another time and resource saving element that is giving organizations and start-ups to focus more on telling that what they want and instead of wasting monetary and physical resources.

Instead of wasting that time and resource organizations can focus on creating a balance between e-learning and offline training. Technology will keep evolving but there are some things which an educator can adapt about their students in a physical session and that is why 80% technology combined with a traditional approach can prove to be more beneficial than either of online and offline alone.
